During the October school holidays leading up to Halloween. Please note this is a ticketed event and only visitors will valid tickets will be allowed entry. Tickets will go on sale in early September.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Come along and pick your pumpkin from the patch. After choosing your pumpkin take it to the barn to pay. There will be some wheelbarrows available to help carry your pumpkin(s). As well as choosing your pumpkin there are other activities available, including visiting the animals on the smallholding, a colouring competition and hay bales to climb on.
Additional hand washing facilities and hand sanitising stations will be provided and all visitors should sanitise their hands on arrival and thoroughly wash their hands before eating. Masks must be worn when paying for any produce. Please pay by card when at all possible. If you have any symptoms please do not attend.
WHAT MEASURES ARE IN PLACE TO ENSURE SAFETY IN LIGHT OF THE CORONAVIRUS?
WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?
Warm clothes and, most importantly, wellies! It can be very muddy and can get cold.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO VISIT?
Tickets cost £5, and your ticket then becomes a voucher to use towards the cost of your pumpkin(s). Pumpkins are priced at between £1.50 and £10. Please note the minimum spend is the £5 ticket cost. You can buy as many pumpkins as you like.
DO I GET TO ACTUALLY PICK MY PUMPKIN OFF THE PLANT?
No the pumpkins will have been cut off the vines and left to "cure" (harden and turn orange). So you will be able to choose your pumpkin from the patch where it grew but you won't be able to cut it off the plant.
ARE ALL THE PUMPKINS PERFECT AND ORANGE AND ROUND?
No I'm afraid not! These are north-Scotland pumpkins, which means they are all different colours and shapes. We think they are even more beautiful when they have greens and oranges in them and aren't totally perfect!
DO YOU HAVE LOTS OF VARIETIES OF PUMPKINS?
Yes, in addition to traditional orange pumpkins we are growing white pumpkins, warty ones, small decorative ones, culinary pumpkins and others.
ARE ALL YOUR PUMPKINS GROWN ON SITE?
We grow thousands of pumpkins on site. However, it is very difficult to grow pumpkins in the north of Scotland and we want to make sure everyone gets a good pumpkin! If the weather has made growing conditions difficult we may supplement our pumpkins with those from other pumpkin farms.
DO YOU HAVE A TOILET?
Yes we have a composting toilet.
DO YOU HAVE A CAFE?
We have a BBQ. This is new for 2020! We will be selling delicious sausages in buns made from our very own rare breed Tamworth pigs by award winning local butcher Ewan Morrice. These pigs have lived their entire lives outdoors, eating grass, clover and wildflowers. We don't think you can buy better quality meat from pigs that have lived happier lives! If you like the sausages as much as we expect you will, we will have packs of sausages available to buy from the freezer.
We will also have pumpkin soup made from our own pumpkins, to warm you up on a chilly autumn day.
HOW DO WE FIND YOU?
We are located near Udny Green, about 9 miles north of Aberdeen. If using the sat nav, the postcode is AB41 6SP but note this will take you to a farmhouse around the corner. With this on your right, drive to the end of the road, turn right and Udny Pumpkins is first on the right.
If approaching from Aberdeen, drive along the B999 towards Pitmedden. Take the left turning marked Millbank, just before the turning to Udny Station. Udny Pumpkins is just over a mile up that road on the right.
IS IT SUITABLE FOR A PUSHCHAIR/BUGGY?
The ground is grassy and can by bumpy/muddy. Most buggies will be fine but a sling may be a better option.
CAN I PAY BY CARD?
Yes we can take cash or card payments and in light of the coronavirus ask you to pay by card if at all possible.
CAN I EAT MY PUMPKIN?
Definitely! There are so many delicious ways to eat pumpkin and ours usually have a lot more flesh than those in the supermarkets. They have been grown without the use of any chemicals. All of our pumpkins are delicious to eat.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD BRING?
A strong bag (such as heavy-duty shopping bag or Ikea bag) would be useful for carrying your pumpkin(s) to the car.
DO YOU ALLOW DOGS ON SITE?
Unfortunately not. We have found that many dogs like to chew pumpkins. We also have sheep and free-range chickens. And as we are a family friendly attraction we have a lot of young children on site and need to respect that some young children are frightened of dogs. So regretfully we do not allow dogs.
DO YOU HAVE HAND WASHING FACILITIES?
Yes we have extra hand washing facilities and hand sanitiser stations this year. Extra hand washing and sanitising is advised in light of the coronavirus. Please sanitise your hands on arrival and wash them thoroughly before eating.
DO YOU ALLOW SCHOOL TRIPS?
Unfortunately we cannot provide staff resources to individual school visits during the pumpkin patch opening time. However, we are happy for small groups to visit the pumpkin patch. Please book in the same way as other visitors, by purchasing one ticket for each car arriving. We cannot cater for large buses as our car park is too small. During the spring we offer structured sessions for pre-school and school groups during which time children will plant a pumpkin and visit the animals on our smallholding. Please contact us for more information.
MY BOOKING IS FOR A 1 HOUR SESSION. DO I NEED TO ARRIVE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SESSION?
In order to make the most of the experience you will need your full hour so please arrival promptly.
MY CHILD PLANTED A PUMPKIN AT THE PLANTING SESSIONS IN APRIL. HOW DO WE FIND THEIR PUMPKIN?
The children's pumpkins will be labelled with their names and in a separate area of the pumpkin patch. Please note there is no commitment to take your child's pumpkin home but if you want to it must be paid for at the pay area (you can use your ticket voucher). Some of the children's pumpkins may be quite small and some will still be green. If your child prefers a different pumpkin in the main patch please feel free to buy a different one - just remove your child's name from their pumpkin and put it in the main patch.
